Cover crops have been receiving attention from researchers and funding agencies and this has led to increased research on the benefits and adoption of CCs. This was attributed to more understanding of the role of CCs in improving soil health parameters. Perceived benefits are strongly associated with farmer and producer willingness to adopt CCs and this can impact soil quality and productivity. This review is intended to harmonize current results on the benefits of CCs in improving soil physical properties and soil conservation, while identifying certain gaps that need to be filled in the understanding of current cropping systems.
