Transitioning to Organic: Field Day at Little Lighthouse Farm

November 7 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm MST

Join us for an inspiring day with urban farmer, Rachel Opio, as she shares her journey of transitioning to organic at Little Lighthouse Farm. From rebuilding soil health and managing cover crops to navigating organic certification, water conservation, and urban livestock, you’ll get an inside look at what it takes to farm sustainably in a city. Learn how pollinators, chickens, and community engagement play a key role in creating an organic farm ecosystem, all while addressing food access for underserved neighborhoods. Don’t miss this real, hands-on account of urban organic farming!

This event is hosted by the Swette Center for Sustainable Food Systems as part of the Arizona Transition to Organic Partnership Program (AZ TOPP) – an initiative to support food producers and handlers across the state in transitioning to organic with mentorship, technical assistance, workforce development, and community building.

TOPP is a nationwide program of the USDA Organic Transition Initiative and is administered by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) National Organic Program (NOP).
