John Pike is a sixth generation farmer from Marion, IL, andoperates Pike Ag, LLC, providing agronomic consulting and contract researchservices for the ag industry. Cover crops are a hot topic that have received a great deal ofattention because of their many potential benefits to the soil and environmentoverall. While many of these claims have been confirmed through detailedresearch, it is not only the use of cover crops, but also the effectivemanagement of the cover crop system that is key to success. In this sessionJohn will discuss reasons why utilizing cover crops makes sense, whileaddressing some missteps involved over the history of cover crop promotionsthat have created some mental and cultural hurdles to cover crop adoption thatwe have the knowledge and technology to overcome today.
