Virtual: From Principles to Practice – A Guide to CEMA 215 In-Field Soil Health Assessment
This webinar will equip participants with the knowledge to conduct a CEMA 215 In-Field Soil Health Assessment. Attendees will learn the requirements and deliverables of the CEMA process and understand the four key soil health principles, enabling them to apply these concepts to assess soil health effectively across land uses.
This webinar provides a detailed guide to the NRCS Conservation Evaluation and Monitoring Activity (CEMA) 215, In-Field Soil Health Assessment, and the foundational “Soil Health Principles” technical note.
The session will begin by breaking down the CEMA 215 document, covering the definition of an in-field soil health assessment and its application to crop, forest, pasture, and range land uses. We will detail the requirements for a Qualified Individual (QI) to perform the assessment and walk through the general and technical requirements—from the initial pre-work conference to the final summary of findings.
The presentation will then explore the “why” behind the assessment by delving into the USDA’s Soil Health Principles. We will discuss the four core principles. We will also highlight how the application of these principles varies across different land uses.
