SUMMARY:Virtual - Maximizing Marginal Croplands Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Free Webinar April 15\, Noon CT \nEighth National Cover Crop Survey Explores Advisors’ Attitudes and Outlook \nJoin Conservation Technology Information Center\, USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program\, and the American Seed Trade Association for the release of the eighth National Cover Crop Survey during a free webinar April 15\, Noon Central Time. \nThe biennial survey has captured farmer sentiment in the past\, and this year’s iteration is the first to survey farm advisors. This novel approach provides insights on advisors’ attitudes on cover crops\, how they get information\, and how cover crops fit with other technical assistance and advisory services they provide. The survey was conducted online in October 2024 and was completed by 654 farm advisors. \nKey findings include:\nAdvisors who also farm and use cover crops in their own operations are five times more likely to recommend them to their clients\, and in turn\, their clients are more likely to use cover crops.\nA majority of farm advisors expect to see cover crop acreage continue to increase.\nA majority of respondents expect farmers to continue to increase the use of cover crop mixes and try ways to combine other soil health practices with cover crops. \nPresenters include:\nDr. Rob Myers\, Director of the Center for Regenerative Agriculture at the University of Missouri\, Extension Professor in the Plant Science and Technology Division\, and Regional Director of Extension Programs for the USDA North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program\nRyan Heiniger\, Executive Director of Conservation Technology Information Center and 4th-generation Iowa Farmer\nAndy LaVigne\, President and CEO of American Seed Trade Association \nThe American Soybean Association also supported this research. \nLearn more in this free webinar as we go deeper into the results and what it means for American agriculture.
