SUMMARY:Virtual: Purdue Entomology Department: Exploring the Application of Black Soldier Flies to Sustainable Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:Departmental Seminar: Exploring the Application of Black Soldier Flies to Sustainable Agriculture\nIn this seminar\, Laura Ingwell\, Ph.D.\, will share her adventures with utilizing black soldier flies as a mechanism to build healthy soils and generate animal feed. She will discuss their potential application to urban agriculture in particular and share her international experience working with fish farmers in East Timor. She will also map out the connection to animal feed in an effort to build collaborations. \nIngwell is an associate professor in the Department of Entomology. As an Extension specialist for horticultural crops\, she works with specialty crop farmers of all sizes to manage insect pests and conserve beneficial insects on their farms. Ingwell’s expertise lies in protected culture\, biological control and\, most recently\, production of black soldier flies. She is the co-chair of the Indiana Horticulture and Small Farm Conference. \nThe seminar will take place in CRTN 1011 or via Zoom. Please contact Marion Welsh for the Zoom link.
