SUMMARY:Organic Grains Conference
DESCRIPTION:On January 4-5\, 2023\, the Northwest Ohio Organic Grains Conference will be held in Archbold\, Ohio. This new event is geographically positioned in the tri-state region (Ohio\, Indiana\, and Michigan) and is intended for current\, transitioning and new-to organic grain farmers; crop consultants; agency personnel; and input suppliers.  The event venue will be at Founders Hall at Sauder Village campus. Keynote speakers for the event will be Joel Gruver\, Western Illinois University\, and Lea Vereecke\, Rodale Institute\, who will present both days along with selected organic farmers\, crop consultants\, and university personnel. \nThe event will begin on Wednesday\, January 4th at 1 pm with sessions focused on the existing/advanced organic grain grower that include the following topics and speakers: \n\nOSU Organic Corn and Sunflower Trials – Osler Ortez\, OSU Extension\nNo-till Organic Soybeans – Léa Vereecke\, Rodale Institute\nWhy Canola\, Sunflowers\, and Alfalfa are in my Rotation– Steve Turnow\, farmer\nSoil Health in Organic Grains – Joel Gruver\, Western Illinois University\nFarmer Panel: Future of Organic Grains – Dave Shively\, Angela Schriver\, Lou Kozma\, Jim Jacobs\n\nOn Thursday\, January 5th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm sessions will be focused specifically on new and transitioning farmers and will include these topics and speakers: \n\nSoil Biology and Nutrient Cycling in Organic Grains – Dani Kusner\, Organic Consultant\nIntegrating Steel & Ecology for Better Weed Mgmt – Joel Gruver\, Western Illinois University\nImportance of Crop Rotation – Léa Vereecke\, Rodale Institute\nLunch with Farmer Roundtable\nOrganic Transition Process (and paperwork) – Julia Barton\, OEFFA\nFarmer Panel: Getting N to Your Organic Grains- Levi Haselman\, Scott Myers\n\n\nGrain Buyer Panel: Marketing Options for Organic Grains\nA Review of the 2023 Organic Corn & Soybean Enterprise Budgets – Eric Richer\, OSU Extension\n\nWhile each day is specific to advanced or transitioning farmers\, respectively\, it is strongly encouraged to attend both days of the conference.  The event will have numerous exhibitor-sponsors as well as networking time built into the schedule. Student (high school and college) Early Bird rates are $60 for both days ($40 for a single day). There will be no virtual option available for the conference. SUMMARY:Midwest Cover Crops Council Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Midwest Cover Crops Council’s Annual Meeting will be held in South Dakota for the first time in conjunction with the South Dakota Soil Health Coalition’s annual Soil Health Conference. Join us to learn about cover crop research and advancements across the Midwest during our state reports on Monday\, January 23\, at 1:00 p.m. and continue through Tuesday morning\, January 24\, with additional updates and working sessions. \nThe SDSHC Soil Health Conference will begin at 1 p.m. at the same location on Tuesday\, Jan. 24\, and will end at 5 p.m. on Wednesday\, Jan. 25. Attendees must register for the SDSHC Soil Health conference separately. Soil Health Conference registration can be found here. \nStudent registration for the Midwest Cover Crops Council Annual Meeting is free and includes special sessions designed for graduate students. Students are asked to register their cover crop research poster to present during networking sessions. Posters can be registered here. Students are encouraged to participate in a poster competition\, prizes will be announced soon. \nThe registration cost for non-students is $40. Lunch on Tuesday will be included with registration leading into the SDSHC Soil Health Conference\, which will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
