DESCRIPTION:Register \nCTTC will be March 11-12\, 2025\, (Tuesday-Wednesday) at Ohio Northern University\, Ada\, Ohio. Connect with other great farmers and CCAs\, experience new ideas\, and increase your net income. \nOur theme is “Getting More from Less.” Cutting costs is key following a year where corn and soybean yields were reduced for many farmers. And crop prices are barely breakeven. We don’t know what the weather will be in 2025\, but commodity prices are projected to stay low. \nJeff Duling\, Putnam County\, will discuss how he works with Mother Nature to increase yields with no-till and cover crops. Part of his farmland is Paulding clay\, considered the worst soil in NW Ohio. He has increased corn yields on it by 50 to 75 Bu/ac. \nConnor Sible\, Asst. Professor\, U. of Illinois\, will share his research on various methods of  “Managing Residue (from high-yielding corn): Mechanical\, Chemical\, and Biological.”  He is sponsored by Calmer Corn Heads. \nRob Myers\, U. of Missouri\, will speak on Regenerative Agriculture. \nOther main speakers\, including the keynote presenter\, will be announced soon. With about 60 speakers total\, CTTC gives plenty of opportunities to gain valuable information. Typically\, we have 25 OSU Extension Educators and campus Faculty on the program. \nThe opening General Session will start at 8:30\, March 11. Master Farmer Awards and the Ohio CCA of the Year will be announced. \nFour concurrent sessions will begin at 10:00 a.m. The Tuesday sessions include: Soil Health\, Cover Crops and No-till; Nutrient Management; Agronomic Crop Management; and Precision Ag & Technology. \nThe four sessions on Wednesday will begin at 8:30\, and end about 4:30. Sessions include: Soil Health\, Cover Crops and No-till; Crop Management; Water Quality; and Regenerative Agriculture. \nTake advantage of the opportunity to discuss one-on-one with speakers\, exhibitors\, sponsors\, and other participants. Bring a friend and/or family members. \nRegistration\nRegistration will be a flat rate $100. SUMMARY:2025 Annual Ryegrass Field Day\, Murray KY
DESCRIPTION:More information \nField Day highlights \n\nPresentations from Murdock and Karathanasis\, who collaborated on lab\, greenhouse and field research to document fragipan remediation\, with John Murphy presenting on improving production potential\nYield comparisons showcasing the significant advantages of deeper and healthier soils\nProducer panel featuring several farmers who have successfully managed fragipan breakdown. They will share best practices\, give tips on controlling cover crop volunteers and discuss cost-benefit considerations\nQ&A session with the researchers and farmers to ensure attendees leave with a practical “recipe” for implementing these methods on their own operations\n\n“This is a chance for farmers to dig into the soil\, talk to those who’ve had success\,” Murdock said. “We will have on-farm soil pits where producers can see the difference between treated and untreated land and hear firsthand from farmers who have transformed shallow\, unproductive fields into deep\, high-yielding soils. It’s one thing to read about in a report — it’s another to stand in a field where fragipan used to be a problem and see how much better the crops are growing.” \nThe field day is free and open to the public. \nThe event will start at 9 a.m. CT March 13 at Paschall Ag Operations\, 1434 Billy Paschall Rd.\,  in Murray\, Kentucky. To reserve a spot or learn more\, please contact Matt Chadwick at the Calloway County Extension Office\, 270-753-1452\, or email matthew.chadwick@uky.edu.

SUMMARY:Soil Con 2025
DESCRIPTION:BringingSoil Health to You: Soil-Con: March 18\, 2025 \nByTashina Lahr-Manifold\, SWCD Soil Health Specialist \nSoil-Con 2025 will be held March 18\, at the Oakwood EventCenter\, Syracuse. This free conference is designed as a working meeting to explore the connections within soil health\, soil fertility\, ecological risk of pest management strategies\, and developing long-term solutions for soil health. This all-day event will have three specialized speakers from across the U.S. coming to Kosciusko County! \nThe keynote address\, Building Soil Health by Managing SoilFertility will be provided by Neal Kinsey\, Kinsey Agricultural Services. Kinsey will talk about basic fertility management and how it can be used to improve soil health. Kinsey argues that you cannot have a functioning soil healthsystem\, without balanced soils. Kinsey’s talk will focus on the positive effects of correcting soil fertility as part of management on farms. Kinsey will have local soil sample results and will share how he would suggest correcting these soils for optimal production. If you would be interested in analyzing your micronutrient balance\, the district has funds available to help you sample your soil. \nJohn Tooker\, Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Entomology at The Pennsylvania State University will be presenting on the Relationships of Pests and Predators. His research group studies relationships among plants\, invertebrate herbivores\, and natural enemies to understand factors that regulate populations of herbivorous insects and slugs. The long-term goal of his research is to exploit ecological interactions for sustainable insect pest management. \nRJ Rant will discuss the key principles of soil health management strategies that can improve nitrogen use on the farm through C: N ratios. You will learn how to grow your soil\, feed your plants\, and analyze nitrogen use in relation to carbon in the soil. RJ Rant is the owner of Terraform Ag and Nutrilink Biosystems. After graduating from Kalamazoo College\, he took over management of his family’s blueberry farm and transitioned it to USDA Organic status. During this process he found that the products he needed to address his soil and plant needs did not exist\, so he decided to create his own. Since then\, he has been consulting for farmers across the country and designing products to meet the unique needs of their soils. \nThis event is free to attend. Registration is required. Please call the office (574-267-7445 ext. 3.) or visit our website(https://www.kosciuskoswcd.org/soil-con-2025) to reserve your seat.

SUMMARY:Virtual - Maximizing Marginal Croplands Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Free Webinar April 15\, Noon CT \nEighth National Cover Crop Survey Explores Advisors’ Attitudes and Outlook \nJoin Conservation Technology Information Center\, USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program\, and the American Seed Trade Association for the release of the eighth National Cover Crop Survey during a free webinar April 15\, Noon Central Time. \nThe biennial survey has captured farmer sentiment in the past\, and this year’s iteration is the first to survey farm advisors. This novel approach provides insights on advisors’ attitudes on cover crops\, how they get information\, and how cover crops fit with other technical assistance and advisory services they provide. The survey was conducted online in October 2024 and was completed by 654 farm advisors. \nKey findings include:\nAdvisors who also farm and use cover crops in their own operations are five times more likely to recommend them to their clients\, and in turn\, their clients are more likely to use cover crops.\nA majority of farm advisors expect to see cover crop acreage continue to increase.\nA majority of respondents expect farmers to continue to increase the use of cover crop mixes and try ways to combine other soil health practices with cover crops. \nPresenters include:\nDr. Rob Myers\, Director of the Center for Regenerative Agriculture at the University of Missouri\, Extension Professor in the Plant Science and Technology Division\, and Regional Director of Extension Programs for the USDA North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program\nRyan Heiniger\, Executive Director of Conservation Technology Information Center and 4th-generation Iowa Farmer\nAndy LaVigne\, President and CEO of American Seed Trade Association \nThe American Soybean Association also supported this research. \nLearn more in this free webinar as we go deeper into the results and what it means for American agriculture.
