SUMMARY:Finding Fairness in Farming Transition Workshop
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to welcome Elaine Froese\, Canada’s Farm Whisper for her famous one-day workshop: Finding Fairness in Farm Transition. Through this workshop\, Elaine will give attendees tips and pointers for successfully working through the ‘undiscussable’. Elaine is the go-to expert for farm families who want better communication and conflict resolution to secure farm transition. She will not give tax advice as Elaine is not an accountant. \nFor over 25 years\, Elaine has been working with families to work together in harmony and prepare the farm for the next generation. As a farmer herself\, a mother to the successor of her farm\, she understands the culture of agriculture like the back of her hand. As a professional speaker\, it’s her passion to share simple\, practical and actionable tools with farm families so they can talk about tough issues and get traction in their farm transition. Elaine states\, “I’m on a mission to guide farm families to get unstuck and communicate better so they can be rich in relationships.” For more info\, see Elaine’s website at www.elainefroese.com. This workshop is hosted by Huntington\, Grant\, Wabash and Wells County Soil & Water Conservation Districts. \nSeats are limited.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Regeneratively Grown Seed
DESCRIPTION:Regeneratively Grown Seed \nJoin John Kempf and Keith Berns on Tuesday\, March 19th at 12:00pm CT to discuss seeds\, where they come from and why it matters. \nInstinctively\, we know that when a seed germinates quickly\, producing a healthy\, dark green seedling\, that plant is off to a good start and will likely produce a high yielding crop. On the flip side\, we get a sinking feeling when germination is slower than anticipated\, followed by the emergence of a pale\, weak seedling. The difference in these two outcomes can greatly influence the economic viability of a crop. \nWhat are the conditions that create a robust seed\, equipped with the nutrition it needs to grow with vigor? How greatly does the health of the parent plants and microbial diversity of the soils in which it’s grown impact the seed produced? What can you do as a grower to provide nutrition for your seeds before they go into the ground and how can you ensure the seed you purchase is of high quality? \nWe’ll be diving into this very topic with John Kempf on March 19th to kick-off our Regeneratively Grown Seed Webinar Series. Following our talk with John\, we’ll be interviewing four of our cover crop seed growers over the coming weeks to learn more about how Green Cover seed is grown\, who is growing it and how we ensure the highest quality seed for our customers. \nLooking to do some study prep? Read John Kempf’s Seeds and Seedlings with Speed article in preparation for the webinar and bring your questions for Q&A! \n\n\n\nRegister for the Webinar

SUMMARY:Advanced Soil Health: Alternative Crop Nutrition Sources and Bio-Stimulants
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will cover alternative sources of nutrition for crops. Learn about a wide range of alternative “solutions” coming on the market in response to increased costs of NPK (nitrogen/phosphorus/potassium) fertilizer inputs. The day includes discussion of research from University of Illinois and Clemson University\, as well as efforts to create soil stimulants based on algae being produced in South Carolina. \nThe workshop will include a presentation from an algae-producing facility on Kiawah Island and a special guest speaker from the University of Illinois. \nPrerequisite Knowledge: None

SUMMARY:Virtual: Getting the Most Out of Cover Crops – Lessons Learned from Delayed Termination Strategies Such as Planting Green and Roller Crimping on NJ Farms
DESCRIPTION:more info/register \nJoin USDA-NRCS for this webinar during which they will discuss what has worked and what hasn’t from New Jersey farmer perspectives as they trialed extending their cover crop growing season and managing bigger cover crop biomass. \nNorth Jersey RC&D was funded through a Conservation Innovation Grant to work with farmers to increase the length of growing time of cover crops and manage the covers through roller crimping\, planting green\, and grazing. These strategies aimed to maximize soil cover\, biodiversity\, and the presence of living roots in annual crop systems\, ultimately increasing the agronomic and economic value of cover crops to agricultural producers. Hear outcomes including paired study results\, farmer testimonials\, and case studies. NRCS New Jersey will also discuss the development of a planting green scenario which is available for cost share payments to farmers. \n  \nThis webinar is presented by USDA NRCS Science and Technology. Contact Jennifer Ryan\, Science & Technology Training Library content manager\, for more information about this webinar.
