SUMMARY:Webinar: Economics of Soil Health on Small Grain Farms
DESCRIPTION:How can soil health practices improve profitability and resilience on small grain farms? Register now for a free webinar on the economic and on-farm benefits of soil health management systems found in SHI’s study of 15 farms in the United States and Canada\, supported by General Mills.\nOn Thursday\, June 20\, 2-3 p.m. Eastern\, join SHI Soil Health Educator Ann Marie Calabro for a session covering the findings\, moderated by General Mills Principal Scientist Dr. Steven Rosenzweig. SHI Agricultural Economist Dr. Archie Flanders will join us for a question-and-answer session following the presentation.\nParticipants will receive fact sheets detailing the findings.\n \nRegistration is free but required to attend\, so sign up today!  \nRegister\n \nThe Soil Health Institute is a global non-profit with the mission of safeguarding and enhancing the vitality and productivity of soils through scientific research and advancement. Our vision is a world where farmers and ranchers grow quality food\, fiber\, and fuel using soil health systems that sustain farms and rural communities\, promote a stable climate and clean environment\, and improve human health and well-being. By bringing together leaders in science and industry\, SHI empowers farmers and landowners to adopt soil health systems that contribute economic and environmental benefits to agriculture and society.

SUMMARY:Soil Health Academy - Evansville\, IN
DESCRIPTION:Farmers looking to reduce input costs\, bring life and hope back to the farm\, and restore profitability will see firsthand how one Evansville farmer successfully and profitably did just that by transitioning his conventional farm into a regenerative showcase. \nRecently\, the non-profit Soil Health Academy (SHA) announced that the Bittner Farm will host one of the organization’s upcoming three-day schools\, July 16-18. Owned and operated by fifth-generation farmer Pat Bittner\, the farm has been in the Bittner family for 150 years and now features 8-12-way\, high biomass cover crop cocktail mixes; “planting green” and crimping; among other regenerative principles and practices. \nIn this “outdoor classroom”\, the SHA school will bring folks from all over together with different levels of experience and facilitate conversation about how regenerative agriculture principles are being applied within the context of the host farm. By understanding how to enable nature’s processes through the principles and rules of soil health\, farmers can pay for their time at this academy within the first week of when they get back home—if they are intentional in truly regenerating their operation. \n• Discover the benefits of using high-biomass covers to mulch cash crops;\n• Save money planting “green;”\n• Realize soil Improvement from using covers;\n• Understand equipment considerations;\n• Make input and timing changes; and\n• Stack multiple on-farm enterprises. “ \nTo further ensure participant success\, tuition for the on-farm school includes registration for SHA’s online Regen Ag 101 course\, two follow-up\, one-on-one video conferences with SHA experts and access to future group conference calls with the course’s instructors.

SUMMARY:79th SWCS International Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\n79th SWCS International Annual Conference\nJuly 21-24\, 2024\nSheraton\nMyrtle Beach\, South Carolina \nThis year\, we are bringing our conservation family to a place where families gather every year to witness the region’s natural beauty and enjoy the company of one another. \nWe will assemble a diverse\, multigenerational conservation network of researchers\, practitioners\, industry leaders\, farmers\, and students from around the world to Myrtle Beach\, a coastal community located in South Carolina\, just minutes from the North Carolina border. Surrounded by breathtaking scenery\, Myrtle Beach and the other coastal communities along the strand showcases the charm and vulnerability of our world’s great ecosystems. From the beaches you can view islands and inlets surrounded by coastal wetlands. Coastal ecosystems transition up river to a diverse agricultural area that covers two-thirds of the state and includes peanuts\, corn\, cotton\, livestock\, and timber production. From there a sharp rise in elevation leads into the Blue Ridge Mountains\, a beautiful section of the Appalachian Mountain Range. \nThis year’s conference theme\, “Rising Together: Collaborative Conservation for All\,” challenges all conservationists to rise to the great challenges and opportunities ahead of us\, together. \nAt this year’s event\, we will share successes and embrace lessons learned so that we can move toward our natural resource goals with greater speed\, efficiency\, effectiveness\, and inclusivity. We will navigate the capacity\, innovation\, and partnerships needed to regenerate our land\, water\, and other natural resources. \nThe agenda will feature the latest ideas\, technologies\, and practices\, and foster a dialogue around their adoption. Cutting-edge research and practice developments in soil health\, water quality\, and resource management will be shared through various workshops\, sessions\, symposia\, tours\, exhibits\, and demonstrations. Scientists and practitioners will present their work at the field\, farm\, and watershed scales across an array of private and public arenas. Applications of social theories and examples of successful outreach and education will enable you to identify ways to scale up localized successes. As an attendee\, you will also hear about policy and economic developments that build a framework to increase conservation adoption and support future generations. \nOutside of the formal program\, you can carry on discussions while the sun sets along the strand\, watch the tides rise and fall\, listen to the birds sing\, and have fun with your conservation family and maybe some of your own family as well! \n\n\n
