SUMMARY:CCSI-SARE: Soil Health and Sustainability for Field Staff Training
DESCRIPTION:Register \nThis is an advanced soil health workshop for Indiana Conservation Partnership staff (NRCS\, SWCD\, Extension\, ISDA\, IDEM\, IDNR\, FSA) and other ag professionals who work one-on-one with farmers and landowners. Attendees will learn to teach others about soil health\, its importance and diagnosis\, along with practices to improve soil health. They will also learn what to look for in a soil pit and learn from local farmers about their soil health systems. Note: this course satisfies USDA-NRCS course requirements for those seeking a Certified Conservation Planner designation. \nSuggested pre-requisites: Completion of CCSI-SARE Fundamentals of Soil Health AND either CCSI-SARE Intro to Soil Health OR an undergraduate soils course. Also recommended: several months (ideally 1 year) of experience working for your respective agency. \nNRCS Staff: Please contact your supervisor about attending this training. \nSeats are limited and have been reserved by the organization. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Clean Water Services’ Davis Tool property next to Jackson Bottom Wetlands to learn about methods for improving soil health \n\n\n\n\nNow that you learned all about the soils of the Tualatin at the previous EcoTeam event\, come learn about what you can do to improve soil health on your ecological restoration projects! \nJoin us at the Clean Water Service’s Davis Tool property on June 29th for a hands‑on exploration of soil ammendments\, from biochar to cover crops\, and much more! \nJohn Goetz III will kick us off with an introduction to the site\, as well as some of the practices he’s using to improve soil health in an area that had been farmed for over 100 years. We’ll then get a chance to learn from Ian Hunter about his work improving the soil biome\, Cuauhtemoc Villa’s experience with producing and using biochar\, Aubrey Harris’ experience using cover crops\, and Bill Riddell’s array of products for improving soil health. \nThis event takes place entirely outdoors\, rain or shine—so come prepared for hot and muddy conditions.
