SUMMARY:Virtual: Diversifying the Corn Belt: Policy Pathways for a Resilient Agriculture Future
DESCRIPTION:CAST is partnering with Diverse Corn Belt to host a free public webinar presenting *Diversifying the Corn Belt: Policy Pathways for a Resilient Agricultural Future*\, a new policy brief examining what federal and state policy can do to support greater agricultural diversity in Illinois\, Iowa and Indiana — where 94% of crop production is currently dedicated to corn and soybeans. \nThe brief is grounded in three years of participatory research: 10 stakeholder meetings with 178 participants\, surveys of 725 farmers and interviews and focus groups with 136 producers across the region. It identifies 19 policy opportunities — ranked by feasibility and transformative potential — across crop insurance\, Farm Bill conservation programs\, post-harvest market infrastructure and institutional procurement. \nCo-first authors Lauren Asprooth (University of Wisconsin-Madison) and Brennan Radulski (University of Vermont) will present the findings and lead a Q&A. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Crowdsourcing Conservation - Financial Incentives Led by Local Farmer Networks
DESCRIPTION:Register \nThis Sand County Foundation webinar will focus on the farmers’ perspectives of an alternative funding approach to conservation implementation. They will share the leadership approach of a farmer-led group and how their conservation goals were prioritized. The session will highlight the lessons learned from initiating and growing farmer peer groups\, while profiling the innovative\, farmer-driven strategies that are successfully driving water quality improvement.

SUMMARY:Virtual: Beyond the Checkbox - Navigating the Spectrum of Conservation Adoption
DESCRIPTION:Register \nAre we measuring conservation success all wrong? Often\, farmer adoption of practices like cover cropping is treated as a simple ‘yes’or ‘no’ check box—but this binary view misses the dynamic reality of farm management. In this session\, we’ll move beyond the binary to explore the lived reality of how farmers adopt cover crops. Drawing from interviews with 86farmers across the U.S.\, we will unpack how producers navigate complex trade-offs and discuss how this understanding can help professionals designmore flexible\, effective programs that support durable\, whole-farm conservation. \nSpeaker: Dr. Lauren Hunt\nLauren Hunt is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University and a Gund Institute for Environment Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Vermont. As an interdisciplinary social scientist\, she investigates agricultural decision-making and behavior in the context of environmental change and conservation. Her scholarship examines producers’ adaptation strategies\, perceptions of environmental risk\, and the efficacy of programs and policies across ranching\, dairy\, and row crop systems. \nPresented by the National Wildlife Federation
