Management of Flatheaded Appletree Borer in Nursery Production with Cover Crops

One alternative method for flatheaded borer management investigated here is the use of cover crops to camouflage or otherwise make the tree crop an undesirable host for borer eggs. This work was initiated based on previous observations of weedy plots having fewer borer attacks than herbicided plots with bare tree rows. The objective of this study was to determine if the presence of cover crops at the base of trees could prevent flatheaded borer attacks.
