SUMMARY:Soil Health on Your Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informative event on improving soil health. Discuss no till and cover crop practices that both help your farm and help water infiltrate into your soil. Dr. Francisco Arriaga will show us inside a soil pit and demonstrate in-field soil tests. We’ll talk about cover crops and yields\, visit experiments on the Novaks’ farm fields\, and then enjoy burgers\, plus seafood caught by fishermen in the Gulf – whose Dead Zone we help through our conservation practices. Don’t miss this opportunity to network with fellow farmers and gain insights that can benefit your agricultural practices. Register now to secure your spot!

SUMMARY:Cover Crop Field Tour
DESCRIPTION:Cover Crop Field Tour\nWe will hear from OSU researchers about preliminary results of new research on the impacts of cover crops on soil and orchard health. Speakers include: farmers Jeff Newton and Zach Christensen\, Dragomira Zheleva\, whose research focuses on water availability and water retention in the soil both with and without cover crops; Chris Lessey\, whose research is related to moderating soil temperature with cover crops; Matt Tippet-Vannini\, whose research investigates the relationship between cover crops and water infiltration. OSU Professor Shannon Cappellazzi will touch on cover crop effects on soil health and Natalie Edward with NRCS will demonstrate differences in management practices on water infiltration and erosion with a rain simulation system. \nAnyone with an interest in cover crops should attend! While we will be in a hazelnut orchard\, and learning about research conducted primarily in hazelnuts\, cover crops can be used in a wide variety of agricultural and even home garden contexts.
